What Are Internet Forums ?
Essentially forums are an "electronic" version of a notice board that substitutes space on a wall with a database and replaces paper with notes that can carry a conversation as well as a message. |
|
Organisation is by Subject Groups.
These contain Forums - a term used to describe an area of interest or topic.
A Forum holds the various Posts. Posts are messages to which others may reply and thus build linked threads of conversation.

A Member may start a new post in any forum or may reply to / become involved in other discussions.
You may subscribe to email notifications of individual posts or entire forums.
Once you have subscribed to a group or forum you can see all such by clicking My Forums

What's are they good For ?
A good example is that of organising events when people are in different places.
All forum communications are in one central and secure location. Participants receive an automatic notification of change. This means one does not have to send lots emails when organising - simply Post the topic and "meet in the forum".

Some people will tell you that forums need a lot of "moderating" by administrators. In our experience this is not the case amongst sensible groups of people. |
